    • Murphy: Hello, I completely agree. I live in a small town in Texas and 80% of those in charge of the community are not original natives. This town has become a shadow of the wholesome town I remember as a child. I wish I knew a way politically to make this town a dry town. The historic down town...

    • Charles Riddle: Alcohol destroyed my father-in-law–resulting in his early death at 49 years old. If something is as tempting as beer being readily available–chances are that those being tempted will spend money that should have been used for food and supplies for their family. Once...
    • Amanda Jones: Please Burnsville let’s keep it dry!! I’m proud to raise my children in a place where we can actually go out to eat and it doesn’t look like a bar; or go to the grocery store and not have to walk through aisles of alcohol and have to explain to my children what...

CAN YOU FIND JUST ONE REASON TO VOTE NO?

What About The Jobs?

All the pro-alcohol lobbyists can talk about is the jobs that alcohol will bring to the county, but what are the facts?

Fact # 1 – Alcohol causes more absences in the workforce

- There is ample evidence that people with alcohol dependence and drinking problems are on sick leave more frequently than other employees, with a significant cost to employees, employers, and social security systems.- http://www.greenfacts.org/en/alcohol/l-2/05-social-economic-problems.htm#3

Fact # 2 – Alcohol causes more workplace injurys.

- Up to 40 percent of industrial fatalities and 47 percent of industrial injuries can be linked to alcohol use and alcoholism http://workplace.samhsa.gov/DrugTesting/Files_Drug_Testing/FactSheet/factsheet041906.aspx

Fact # 3 – Alcohol causes decreased worker productivity

- Problems related to alcohol and drug abuse cost American businesses roughly $81 billion in lost productivity in just one year
http://workplace.samhsa.gov/DrugTesting/Files_Drug_Testing/FactSheet/factsheet041906.aspx

Fact # 4 – Alcohol is a leading contributor to POVERTY!

- The economic consequences of alcohol consumption can be severe, particularly for the poor. Apart from money spent on drinks, heavy drinkers may suffer other economic problems such as lower wages and lost employment opportunities, increased medical and legal expenses, and decreased eligibility for loans. http://www.greenfacts.org/en/alcohol/l-2/05-social-economic-problems.htm#3

Fact # 5 – There is no correlation between being a “wet” county and lower unemployment.

- Take a look at – http://www.wral.com/news/state/page/4879060/ This page reveals that Mitchell, McDowell, Burke, Ruthordford, and Cleavland counties (all wet) have higher un-employment than Yancey County. At the same time, Madison, Buncombe, and Avery counties (all wet) have lower unemployment.

Looking at this from a purely scientific method, one can only deduce that the availability of alcohol does not mean less unemployment.

DO NOT BE FOOLED! – ALCOHOL IS NOT A JOBS CREATOR, IT IS A POVERTY CREATOR!!!!

VOTE NO APRIL 6TH!

YOUR CHILD’S FUTURE DEPENDS ON YOUR WISDOM.
